Home for Widows and Destitute, Jalandhar
In this Home, widows and destitute women along with their children get a cash dole for their livelihood and clothes. The assistance has been enhanced to Rs 2000/- Per Month per beneficiary from 1-4-2015. Apart from this, they get free accommodation, electricity, water and medical assistance. New admission is done on the recommendation and approval of the Head of department. The capacity of the home is 250 inmates.
Training-cum-Protection Centre, Jalandhar
The Department is running Training-cum-production Centre at Jalandhar, where the inmates are provided technical training in cutting, tailoring embroidery, leather /plastic goods and to make the uniform of the employees of the Police Department etc. They are provided wages for the work done by them.

The Punjab Government is implementing the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act, 1956 and one Protection Home has been set up at Jalandhar for this purpose. The inmates of this home are provided free boarding, lodging, medical facilities, vocational training in cutting/tailoring and embroidery etc.

Schemes by State Governments for Girl Child
Balri Rakshak Yojana
This scheme is being implemented by the Department of Health & Family Welfare for families with up to two girl children and no male child, and is also linked with control of population. Families who do not have taxable income and follow the two child norm will be eligible under this scheme.
The State Government gives a monthly incentive of Rs.500/- for one girl child and Rs.700/- for two girl children. The monthly incentive starts from the day the family adopts a family planning operation and the girl child is less than 5 years old.

Kanya Jagriti Jyoti Scheme
This scheme is admissible to girl children born in families below poverty line whose parents have adopted the two child norm. An amount of Rs. 5000 is deposited at the time of birth of girl child with LIC which further gives them the following benefits:
- From 6th year to 12th year of age Rs.1,200 p.a. scholarship
- From 12th year to 18th year of age Rs.2,400 p.a. scholarship
- Lumpsum amount at the age of 18 or on 21 years as decided by the family. This amount is to be finalized by the LIC at the age of 18 or 21 years.
This scheme is being implemented by the Department of Social Security and every year there are about 8000 beneficiaries.
Dhan Lakshmi Scheme
This scheme is being implemented in Sirhind Block of Fatehgarh Sahib district. The government deposits a certain amount with LIC on the birth of a girl child. This scheme is open to all girl children irrespective of the income level and size of the family.
The incentives of this scheme are:
- At the time of birth Rs. 5,000
- Complete immunization Rs.1,250
- Education
- On enrolment in Primary School Rs.1,000
- On passing of class I, II, III, IV & V Rs. 500 each
- On enrolment in Secondary School Rs.1,500
- On passing of class VI,VII & VIII Rs.750 each
- Girl remaining unmarried Rs.1.00 lakh upto 18 years of age
