Welfare schemes for women
Ujjwala Scheme
- To prevent trafficking of women and children for commercial sexual exploitation through social mobilization and involvement of local communities, awareness generation programmes, generate public discourse through workshops/seminars and such events and any other innovative activity.
- To facilitate rescue of victims from the place of their exploitation and place them in safe custody.
- To provide rehabilitation services both immediate and long-term to the victims by providing basic amenities/needs such as shelter, food, clothing, medical treatment including counselling, legal aid and guidance and vocational training.
- To facilitate reintegration of the victims into the family and society at large
- To facilitate repatriation of cross-border victims to their country of origin.
STEP
STEP scheme is being conducted with the objective of providing training of self-employment to women in traditional enterprises like agriculture, animal husbandry, dairy, matting, horticulture etc. Women are trained with the cooperation of Non-Government Organisations. Proposals of Non-Government Organisations are sent to the Government of India through the Empowered Committee constituted under the Chairmanship of Secretary, Women Empowerment and Child Development Department, Government of Uttarakhand.
OBJECTIVES OF THE SCHEME
- Mobilizing women in small viable groups and making facilities available through training, access to credit and other inputs.
- Provide training for skill up gradation
- Enabling groups of women to take up employment-cum-income generation programmes of their own, or to access wage employment.
- Provide support services for further improving and employment conditions of women and for access to health care, literacy, legal literacy, and other information.

Schemes by State Governments for Girl Child
Nanda Guara Devi Kanya Yojana
Gaura Devi Kanya Dhan Yojana was launched by the Uttarakhand government for the economically weaker sections of the state. Under this scheme, financial assistance of Rs 50,000 is to be provided by the government to girls belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Castes and BPL (SC, ST, EWS) category. To get benefits under this scheme, the student must be in the intermediate or 12th standard from a school under a board recognized by the Central Government / State Government located in the state. Only then can she apply under this scheme.
